BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans say ‘poor Giovanni’ as they spot dancer after Amanda Abbington forced to pull out

Strictly Come Dancing fans wasted no time in commenting when they spotted Giovanni Pernice during the latest live show despite him being forced to pull out of performing with celebrity dance partner Amanda Abbington.

It was announced on Friday (October 20) that actress Amanda couldn't compete in week five of the BBC One dance contest "due to medical reasons". It was former Strictly professional Janette Manrara who announced the news on BBC Two spin-off show It Takes Two.

She told those tuned in: "Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, Amanda will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend," she said. "Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni (Pernice) will return the following week."

The 39-year-old added: “Amanda we hope you get well soon, my love, sending you all the best wishes." Amanda and Giovanni had been due to perform a cha cha cha to Jamioquai's hit Canned Heat and their absence in the studio on Saturday night's live show (October 21) was addressed by hots Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman within moments of cameras rolling.

Claudia once again mentioned 'medical reasons' as the reason Amanda wasn't there, before Tess explained: "As per the rules of the competition, she's been given a bye and, all being well, will return to the ballroom next week." Claudia then added: "Amanda, we are all sending you so much love," with Tess chiming in: "Lots of love to you."
