'I got banned' - Roy Keane has Gary Neville in stitches with Manchester United Christmas party tale

Roy Keane had Gary Neville in stitches when replying to his question about why the Irishman was banned from a Christmas party during his time with Manchester United.

The iconic former captain took centre stage on the latest Stick To Football podcast episode when he joined Neville, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright and Jill Scott on the panel. Keane and the group got into the Christmas spirit and told a few stories from their playing days.

The former captain, who needs no introduction for what he achieved at Old Trafford and beyond, said he was ordered to stay away from the festivities at United one year after partying at a separate bash with the reserves while injured.

"I got banned from the Manchester United Christmas party one year," Keane said. "I must've been injured and the reserve team were having a night out and I went out with them. I think there was a bit of bother in Manchester. Obviously I was trying to be peacemaker."

With the panel already chuckling, Neville then asked Keane when it happened. He replied: "Christmas!" At that stage, Neville and the other pundits burst into laughter as the Irishman continued with his tale.

He added: "The first team lads were going out a couple days later and Sir Alex Ferguson came in and in front of everyone, he said that if anyone was seen drinking with me that day they would get fined. "The players were worried about getting fined, so I ended up going out by myself. I had a party by myself."
