Roy Keane criticises Manchester United players as he highlights major problem

Former captain Roy Keane has admitted that he views Manchester United as a team of individuals, as opposed to being a team built on unity and togetherness.

United lost their 14th game of the season in all competitions against Nottingham Forest just over a week ago, meaning they made the trip to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup third round on Monday night having lost 50 per cent of their matches this term. They have regularly taken one step forward and then two steps back.

United have frequently produced below-par performances in recent months, attracting justified criticism. They are currently eighth in the Premier League table and have already exited Europe.

As a result of their ongoing struggles, Keane hit out at his old club ahead of the clash with Wigan, admitting that he has noticed an alarming pattern with this current group of players and that their heads often tend to drop when the going gets tough.

"I don't think they play like a team," Keane told ITV Sport. "They have got a lot of very good players, but we have seen how inconsistent they are.

"They have lost a lot of games this year. Every time they get into an arm wrestle in any game they always seem to go under.

"They are talented players, no doubt, but they are not a team. They have had plenty of excuses over the past year with recruitment, ownership of the club and injuries, but there can be no excuses tonight [vs Wigan]."
