Hythe Town manager Andy Drury calls for 90-minute performance at Fisher after back-to-back wins boost Southern Counties East survival bid
Manager Andy Drury says back-to-back wins have given Hythe Town a bit of hope in their bid to beat the drop.
The Cannons claimed a second successive 3-1 victory, this time at bottom side Stansfeld, to move six points from safety in the Southern Counties East Premier Division.
They’ve played three more games than Faversham Strike Force, the side immediately above them, but momentum is building for the Cannons with nine matches to go.
Town will be tested at third-placed Fisher this Saturday (3pm) but spirits are high after consecutive victories.
“What we’ve done is given ourselves a bit of hope,” said Drury.
“The next two or three games now are huge to get back in the pack, which is what we need to do.
“We need to keep the run going and see if we can put pressure on the teams above.”
Drury has called for a 90-minute performance against Fisher after Hythe once again trailed at half-time last weekend.
They recovered to beat Stansfeld, thanks to goals from Jason Fregene, Uko Oji and Monty Saunders, having also rallied against Corinthian in their previous match.
But Drury has warned they won’t always get away with below-par first-half displays.
“It was pretty much a carbon copy of the previous Saturday,” said Drury.
“First half, we were poor, we didn’t get going.
“We had a few choice words with the boys at half-time, a few home truths, and they’ve come out and been really good.
“Eventually, if you keep playing like that in the first half, you might be two or three behind and you won’t be able to claw it back.
“So we need to learn from that for the next nine games and go out and perform like we did in the second half for 90 minutes.
“For me, it’s a mentality thing. In the first half, we’re doing things we shouldn’t be doing.
