Folkestone Invicta boss Jay Saunders on attacking midfielder Ryan Kingsford’s first club goal in 2-0 Isthmian Premier victory at Dulwich Hamlet ahead of the visit of Hashtag United
Ryan Kingsford’s greediness in front of goal pleased Folkestone boss Jay Saunders as the attacking midfielder opened his club account in their weekend win.
Kingsford struck off the substitutes’ bench in stoppage time of the leaders’ 2-0 Isthmian Premier victory at Dulwich Hamlet after 20-goal top scorer Jake Hutchinson had broken the deadlock with 20 minutes to play.
It was a first Folkestone goal for the 24-year-old, who is also previously of Sittingbourne, having joined from Ramsgate for an undisclosed fee last month.
“He came in at a really difficult time,” said Saunders. “When he came in, his first game with us was against Carshalton (a goalless draw) and that came after the defeats to Chatham and Aveley.
“Donell Thomas has come back in again and started scoring goals so I had a good chat with Ryan.
“He’s realised we’re asking him to play in a slightly different way to what he was used to.
“With that chance on Saturday, he could have squared it to Pigs (striker Joe Pigott) - that might have been the easy option - but I like the fact he was a bit greedy.
“It was a really good finish.”
Saunders felt Invicta performed better in the opening 45 minutes than they did after the break despite both goals coming in the second period in front of a crowd of 2,231 at Champion Hill.
He reflected: “I felt, especially in the first half, it was a nigh-on perfect away performance.
“We created some really good chances and just didn’t take them. But we limited them really well, apart from one chance, which they maybe should score.
“In the second half, I didn’t think we were as good but we took our chance when it came and it was good for Ryan to get one.
"Dulwich, when they’re on it, like they were when we played them at home (a 2-2 draw
