Hythe Town manager Andy Drury critical of Tunbridge Wells postponement as Cannons find themselves 10 points from safety
Andy Drury was unhappy with the postponement of Hythe’s Southern Counties East Premier Division match at Tunbridge Wells.
The game was called off on Saturday morning due to a waterlogged pitch despite an upturn in the weather.
Drury had attended Wells’ 2-0 defeat by Hollands & Blair last Tuesday, which was their first home league game since November 1, as problems persist with the Culverden pitch.
The Cannons boss assumed it would be game on at the weekend but it wasn’t to be, much to his frustration.
“It’s embarrassing, to be honest,” said Drury.
“It was the only game around to be called off.
“I watched them on Tuesday night and it was alright. It was playable.
“It rained once since Tuesday night, it didn’t rain all day Thursday, all day Friday, and it was lovely weather Saturday.
“There was no excuse for that game to be called off at all.
“We found at half 10, 11 o’clock, and there was no real inkling the game was in danger. No one would think it would be in danger when it hasn’t rained for a few days.
“I think it’s awful. It’s one of those where players would have given up a day’s work, I’ve given up a day’s work, and I think it’s just poor all round. It’s been going on too long there.”
It was too late to train anywhere by the time the game was called off, so it turned out to be a wasted weekend.
“That’s the thing,” explained Drury. “You end up not being able to do anything, so you trust the players to do their own thing.
“When you expect a game to be off, when it’s been raining solidly, like it did maybe in January and February, you can provisionally book things.
“But when you’ve got bright sunshine you’re not expecting the game to be called off, and it shouldn’t be off. You don’t plan for it because there’s no
