Tonbridge Angels manager Alan Dunne sets new target of 60 points and Kent Senior Cup glory after back-to-back away wins effectively clinch National League South safety

Alan Dunne considers Tonbridge safe after a “mind-blowing” victory at Weston-super-Mare - and now has a new target in mind.

Angels reached the magic 50-point mark in National League South after a second 1-0 away win in four days on Tuesday night.

Ethan Sutcliffe scored a late winner against Weston, just as he did at Horsham on Saturday, to move them 15 points clear of the bottom four.

With seven games to go, Angels are all but safe and looking forward to another season of Step 2 football.

They’re up to 15th after a fourth win in six games - and manager Dunne wants to keep climbing.

“I feel like it’s done,” he said. “But what I don’t want to do is take our foot off the gas.

“We wanted to get to 50 points and now we want to try and get to 60 points as the next target.

“There’s 21 points to play for and we want to finish as high up the league as we can.

“We’ve put ourselves in a strong position where we can go and enjoy the remaining seven games with no pressure.

“The players have earned that right but we want to finish the season strong.

“We’re still in the Kent Senior Cup and we’ve got the semi-final at Chatham on Tuesday, with the winners playing Maidstone in the final.

“Can we get to 60 points and can we get into the Kent Senior Cup final and try and win that?

“That would be a really good season.”

“The play-offs aren’t out of reach yet,” added a smiling Dunne. “That’s our target. We’ll fight to the end.”

The victories over Horsham and Weston took Tonbridge’s tally of away league wins this season to eight, level with Maidenhead and Chelmsford.
