Will Tate delighted to put contract talks to bed with focus now on nailing down Hull KR jersey

Hull KR speedster Will Tate made his first 2022 appearance for the Robins last weekend, replacing the injured Ethan Ryan on the wing for the Magic Weekend clash with Hull FC. After producing a steady outing and even having a try disallowed, Tate was on media duties ahead of Sunday's crucial game with Wakefield Trinity, and it was the first chance for the winger to discuss his contract extension that was confirmed in June.

Tate penned a new two-year deal with the Robins, which will see him at Sewell Group Craven Park until at least the end of the 2024 campaign. After spending time on loan at Betfred Championship outfit Workington Town, Tate admitted knowing his time at Rovers was running out was playing on his mind, with the extension giving him significant relief and some clarity surrounding his future.

"It's one of those things where you say it's at the back of your mind, but to get it done early is great," said Tate. "I was aware at the beginning of 2022 that this was my last contracted year, and things were up in the air. "It's great to be done early, and I can focus on rugby. It's exciting times at the club."

The Scunthorpe-born prospect found game time sparse under Tony Smith, having only playing six times for the Robins since 2020. Tate understands Ryan Hall, Ethan Ryan, and Ben Crooks are above him on the club's pecking order but sees his experienced teammates' influence as a way to aid his development in the long run rather than dwelling on the issue.
