Hull FC suffered a 19-18 Golden Point defeat at Wakefield on Sunday afternoon, but it could yet come at a heavier cost as Jake Connor left the field with a knee injury in the second half.

The Hull fullback was screaming in pain as he stayed down after being tackled, and could be seen in the dugout wearing a knee brace soon after. Hull now face an anxious wait, with Connor again showing up best in attack as he took his Super League try assist tally to 24 for the season.

Leading 18-6, Hull were looking comfortable at that stage too, with Wakefield seeing it as their opportunity to claw their way back. They did just that and Hull were left to rue a lost lead as a poor second half ended with Jacob Miller landing the winning drop goal.

Hull looked to have done enough to see the game out without their most influential player with Connor Wynne and then Darnell McIntosh moving to fullback. Lee Gaskell though had other ideas, and it was his try that sent the game to extra time in the final minute.

It was Hull who started as the stronger side, and after Wakefield lost Reece Lyne early in the game after an awkward three man tackle, it was the away side who began to get a foothold. They scored first through Adam Swift, who squeezed over in the corner following a Connor pass.

Hull, who in parts found field position difficult to come by, defended well early on and earned their reward as a sweeping move saw Darnell McIntosh slide over for FC's second try. Wakefield then responded through Matty Ashurst, but they were then dealt a sucker-punch as Luke Gale crisply kicked
