Huge delays on M60 after car bursts into flames

All traffic is being held on the M60 this afternoon following reports of a vehicle fire.

Queues are building on the M60 clockwise at J3 A34 Kingsway as emergency services rush to the incident. It is not yet clear whether anyone has been hurt.

Motorists are currently facing delays as traffic is stationary due to the fire on the exit slip road.

There is still queueing traffic due to earlier vehicle fire on M60 clockwise at J3 A34 Kingsway.

The exit slip has now reopened, but traffic has been worsened due to 'usual afternoon congestion'.

There are delays this evening including to buses and public transport

Footage and pictures taken on the M60 this afternoon shows the moment the car burst into flames.

Traffic was seen slowly passing the burning car, which was on the hard shoulder beside the slip road.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 1.40pm today (Tuesday July 30) three fire engines from Stockport, Cheadle and Wythenshawe fire stations were called to reports of a car on fire on the M60 sliproad between junctions two and three.

“Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe. Crews were in attendance for around 35 minutes.”
