CCTV appeal after hooded thief bursts into mini market with machete

Police have issued a CCTV appeal after a hooded thief burst into a mini market in Gorton with a machete.

The terrifying incident happened at the Blackwin Mini Market on Blackwin Street on March 17 this year, police said. A man was working on the shop floor alone when the suspect burst in at around 7.28am.

He was carrying a machete as well as a suitcase. The suspect demanded money from the worker before a 'physical altercation' broke out between them.

The shop worker was pushed to the floor during the attack as bread baskets were launched towards him. The thief grabbed the till before he fled the scene, officers said.

He ran in the direction of the park towards Gorton Lane. Today (August 8) Greater Manchester Police released CCTV images of a man 'they would like to speak to'.

Anyone who recognises him is being urged to get in touch. Officers also want to speak to anyone who has information about the incident, or CCTV or dashcam footage.

"Officers would like to speak to the man pictured. If anyone witnessed this incident, has any information, or recognises the man in the image, please get in touch. That includes anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage", GMP said.
