Huddersfield Town to learn extent of defender's injury ahead of Burnley as team hint dropped

Huddersfield Town are waiting for an assessment on the extent of the injury picked up by defender Matty Pearson as Danny Schofield suggested the Terriers are 'almost there' with their team choice for the Championship opener against Burnley.

The Clarets are poised to embark upon their first campaign back in the second tier of English football since 2016. The club was relegated from the Premier League last season after six years in the top flight.

The Turf Moor outfit have Vincent Kompany now at the helm as they aim to return to the top tier at the first time of asking. They begin their campaign on the road to Huddersfield next Friday at the John Smith's Stadium.

Their opponents Town were in pre-season action yesterday with games against Tranmere Rovers and Bolton Wanderers. A strong Town side took to the pitch against the Whites.

But Wanderers built up a head of steam after the break and deservedly got back on level terms thanks to Kieran Sadlier coming off the bench to curl home a sublime strike and ensure the content ended even with the final act of the encounter.

On Pearson's substitution early in the first half at the University of Bolton Stadium, Schofield said he would wait for the assessment but the defender will be desperate to be fit having missed the end of last season through injury.
