Former Huddersfield Town defender Naby Sarr closes in on move to Championship rivals Reading

Former Huddersfield Town defender Naby Sarr is closing in on a move to Reading. Sarr played 25 games in all competitions for the Terriers last season, including in their play-off final defeat to Nottingham Forest at Wembley.

The 28-year-old joined Huddersfield as a free agent in 2020 after his contract at Charlton Athletic expired. Sarr played 66 games during his time at the Terriers, scoring seven goals, and was a key man during Carlos Corberan's tenure, especially in the Spaniard's first season.

The centre-back was released by Huddersfield this summer, along with Álex Vallejo, Reece Brown, Jamal Blackman, Fraizer Campbell and Carel Eiting.

The left-sided centre-half looks set to join Reading ahead of the 2022/23 season. Sarr is also formerly of Lyon and Sporting Lisbon. Reading boss Paul Ince says he's hopeful of signing Sarr this week.

"I hope something will happen this week because it's been tough," he said. "Hopefully we can get (Mamadou) Loum in this week. To get him and Sarr in means we'll look a lot more stronger."

Huddersfield Town face Reading at the Madejski Stadium on October 1, with the return fixture at the John Smith's Stadium on the final day of the season on May 6.
