Huddersfield Town's surprise 19th man and Harry Toffolo's teammate tribute among moments missed

You know, of course, that Huddersfield Town beat Middlesbrough 0-2 at the Riverside Stadium in Monday’s lunchtime kick off, putting them just three points away from mathematically guaranteeing the top six finish they have worked so hard to achieve.

But whether you were watching from the ground or live on TV, there are a few little moments from the game (and shortly thereafter) that might have slipped your attention. Moments like…

With Levi Colwill and Danny Ward both out through injuries that Carlos Corberan hopes will prove not to be serious, the head coach was forced to make a few changes from the 18-man matchday squad that drew 2-2 with Queens Park Rangers on Friday.

Josh Ruffels and Scott High both moved up to the bench, with Carel Eiting surprisingly omitted altogether. In fact, the Dutchman didn’t even make the trip to Middlesbrough: the spare men who boarded the bus in case of any mishaps in the warm-ups were young goalkeeper Jacob Chapman and French starlet Etienne Camara.

The combative ball-playing midfielder turned 19 just a few weeks ago and has been a regular in the B team this season, playing a lot of football in the middle of a back three. Might that versatility have earned him the nod over Eiting? Or was it simply a matter of giving vital first-team matchday experience to one of the academy’s more promising prospects?

Sorba Thomas went down injured after suffering a nasty-looking collision while challenging for a 50/50 ball with Marc Bola midway through the first half, and the break in play allowed Corberan to dish out a few instructions to his side.

A full two minutes or so of that was spent talking to Jordan Rhodes, who if anything looked to be trying a little too hard during the opening minutes.
