Huddersfield Town family feeling extends beyond dressing room as play-off final nears
Huddersfield Town have landed back in beautiful West Yorkshire for their final week of preparation ahead of Sunday’s Championship play-off final against Nottingham Forest – and it was not just the players and staff who made the trip out to Portugal last week.
While it was all business in the gym and on the training pitch, the players’ families got a rare opportunity to get to know each other as part of the trip once each day’s training was done.
Corberan believes that valuable time together will serve his side well as they prepare for Sunday’s high-pressure occasion, telling the club’s YouTube channel while still in Portugal: “I think the togetherness has been, for me, one of the keys to the high competitive level of the squad during all the season.
“With these types of experiences where everyone is here together with all the families, they are meeting, they are spending more time that sometimes you don’t have the time or you can’t find the possibility to increase the relationship with the people you are playing with and the families of these people.
“During this week we have had more time to get to know the daughter or son of the teammates you’re spending a lot of time with in the dressing room or on the football pitch and with whom you have a very good connection.
“This gives us the opportunity to increase this kind of connection, not just with your teammates but with the people your teammates love and who are very important to them.”
That also ties into Corberan’s desire for the players to keep their minds more on continuing the hard work that has got them to Wembley in the first place, rather than focusing on what is at stake for the two sides.
