Huddersfield Town defender joins Motherwell on loan

Motherwell have signed Huddersfield Town full-back Brodie Spencer on a season-long loan.

The Steelmen have been beset by injuries in the forward areas over the past month, but they have moved to strengthen at the back with the arrival of 19-year-old Spencer from the English Championship outfit.

Northern Irish international Spencer signed a new contract with the Terriers until 2025 earlier this season but is now in Scotland to get first team games under his belt.

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell told the club website: “Brodie is a real quality player with bags of potential.

“I think it says a lot when the parent club offer a player a new deal before loaning him out. It shows their real desire to see the player grow and I think Brodie will do just that.

“With international caps in the senior team at such a young age, it only shows how much quality he’s got."

After completing his move, Spencer, who will wear the number 22 shirt, said: “It’s been a busy couple of days but I’m buzzing to be here.

“This is a great opportunity for me to get minutes and impress in a first-team environment.

“I feel like the club and the manager is a good fit for me and I can’t wait to get going.”

Spencer has six first-team appearances at Huddersfield and has three caps for his country.

He could make his debut at Fir Park on Saturday when the Steelmen host in-form Kilmarnock in a Premiership clash.
