Gillingham sign former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Nathan Harvey; He helped Chatham Town to the Isthmian South East title last season and has now agreed a loan deal at Lewes

Gillingham’s new goalkeeper helped Chatham Town win the Isthmian South East title last season - and scored a winning goal too.

Nathan Harvey was on loan at Chatham last season from Charlton Athletic, playing in six league games for the Medway side, along with a handful of cup appearances.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper will link up with the Gills’ B team squad but has started the season playing for Lewes in the Isthmian Premier Division. He played in Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Faversham.

Lewes have confirmed that a loan agreement has been made with the Gills for him to remain at The Dripping Pan.

He announced the signing at Gillingham on social media, writing: “All glory to God!

“Happy to have signed for The Gills. The journey continues. This one’s deeper.”

Harvey was on the Charlton released list this summer, along with another Gillingham signing Macauley Bonne.

He was in their under-21 squad, having spent six years with the London outfit, but the club decided against taking up the option to extend his deal and he trained with the Gills over the summer.

Harvey scored the only goal of the game for Chats in the 1-0 win at Burgess Hill Town in March, netting from a goal-kick, but was controversially sent off later in the match after a bust-up with the home side’s striker.

This goalkeeper scored a game-winner direct from a goal kick
