How Sheikh Jassim takeover could immediately add £41m to Manchester United's transfer budget

When the Glazers announced they would 'seek strategic alternatives' for Manchester United back in November, few expected we'd still be waiting for a conclusion come the beginning of the summer transfer window.

Since then, United have wrapped up a Carabao Cup - the club's first trophy in six years - as well as securing a Premier League top four finish, Champions League football for next season and an FA Cup runners-up medal. All in all, it has been an encouraging first season for Erik ten Hag who is now finding his plans to kick on this summer hampered by the ongoing debacle around the club's ownership.

United are having to work under a strict budget of between £100m to £120m this summer due to Financial Fair Play regulations and the lack of investment from the Glazers. With the transfer kitty currently only half as full as it ended up being last summer, United are expected to have to make sales in order to address all of the issues Ten Hag wants to within his squad.

Another quickfire way that the transfer budget could be increased would be with new owners - with Sheikh Jassim's plan to take the club forward offering a solution that could add £41million to the coffers. The Qatari banker has offered to purchase 100 per cent of the club, unlike Sir Jim Ratcliffe's offer which would see him take a controlling stake allowing the Glazers to remain ahead of a phased departure.
