Hibs defender can be best right-back in Scotland, insists Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe reckons Hibs defender Kanayo Megwa can become the best right back in Scotland.

The 19-year-old was on loan at the Diamonds during the first half of the season, but has been recalled from his season-long by his parent club following impressive performances in the Championship.

It was a big blow to Airdrie as Megwa had been an integral part of their climb to fourth in the Championship, which has them sitting in the play-off spots.

But McCabe insists he holds no ill feelings towards the Hibees or boss Nick Montgomery and believes the talented teenager will go on to have a great career in the game.

He said: "First and foremost, Kanayo is a Hibs player so we are grateful that they have allowed him to come and develop and play for us.

"I went and watched him for months and I know he is a fantastic player.

"He has got a really good chance of becoming a top player, if not the best right-back in Scotland.

"I know that is a big statement but I truly believe that.

"We've seen glimpses of that here, where he was improving week on week.

"I think he has great attributes, in terms of his one-on-one defending, his athleticism. He is so comfortable that he can play left-back or right-back.

"We've spoken about areas where we think he can improve and we've seen him develop and grow in confidence.

"I just really hope he goes back to Hibs and gets a real opportunity because it would be a real shame to waste all the good work that he built up here and then go back and sit in the reserves or not get a fair crack at it.

"I hope he goes back to Hibs. I want young players to do well.

"There's no personal thing where I hate Hibs. I want him to do well and implement what he has done here at Hibs.
