Hearts 0, Motherwell 1: Ten-man Motherwell hold on for brilliant away win

Ten-man Motherwell stretched their unbeaten Premiership run to 10 games with a hard-fought win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

The win puts them joint-top of the Premiership with champions Celtic.

Callum Slattery's 29th minute strike was enough to take all three points back to North Lanarkshire, despite Paul McGinn being sent for an early shower with more than 20 minutes left.

Hearts did everything they could to make their numerical advantage count, but ultimately it wasn't enough and the Steelmen held out.

Callum Slattery gave Motherwell the lead in 29 minutes and it was no more than the Steelmen deserved, having created the better chances in the first half.

Bevis Mugabi and Theo Bair were both denied by top saves from Zander Clark, and while Hearts had possession, they didn't do enough with it.

In the second half Hearts looked more lively and had the numerical advantage when McGinn was shown a red card, but they couldn't capitalise.

Hearts boss Steven Naismith made three changes to the side that lost 4-0 to PAOK Salonika in their Europa Conference League qualifier on Thursday night. Peter Haring, Alex Lowry and Yutaro Oda came in for Toby Sibbick, Kenny Vargas and Stephen Kingsley.

Motherwell gaffer Stuart Kettlewell made one change to the side that beat Kilmarnock 2-1 last weekend, as Harry Paton replaced Joe Efford, who was on the bench alongside new signings Georgie Gent and Oli Shaw.

Lawrence Shankland had the first chance for Hearts in six minutes, but fired wide of the left post from a tight angle.

But Motherwell very nearly took the lead in 13 minutes when Blair Spittal's corner from the left was met with a powerful header by Bevis Mugabi, but brilliantly touched over by Zander Clark.
