He was killed at home while his kids slept upstairs. His hitmen have never been found

While his two young children slept upstairs, Michael Donovan was killed at home, in front of his wife. The attack was organised by a former police officer who wanted to take control of the boxing promoter's latest prodigy, Louis Cuddy.

But it was two other men who carried out the murder. With the 30th anniversary of the killing fast approaching, the hitmen are still yet to see justice.

Detectives believe the pair were known to Mr Donovan, the Liverpool Echo reports. There were no signs of forced entry to his home on Sefton Road in Walton, Merseyside, following the attack on April 13, 1994.

The investigation revealed the targeted attack was organised by Mark Heaver, who had left the police to start a security business. He was later jailed for his role in the attack, but the hitmen are still at large.

Mr Donovan was overpowered after he opened the front door of his home. His two young children were asleep upstairs, while their dad was beaten with a baseball bat then stabbed during the frenzied attack.

Mr Donovan's parents lived a few doors down from his home, while his sister had a house across the road. Following the attack, the alarm was raised and Mr Donovan's family arrived at his home to find his body partly rolled up in a carpet.

Mr Donovan's brother Cyril was one of the first people on the scene. Speaking previously to the Liverpool Echo, he said: "The baseball bat was still there. The paramedics turned up but told us there was nothing they could do.

"We were such a close family. My mum and dad lived a few doors down from Michael and I was nearby too. We just never got over it."
