Harvey Cartwright in battle with Chelsea teenager for Peterborough goalkeeping gloves

Harvey Cartwright could still kick off next season as Peterborough United's first-choice keeper, despite on-loan Chelsea teenager Lucas Bergstrom having been handed the number one squad number at London Road. Hull City have sanctioned a season-long loan move to Posh for 20-year-old Cartwright in the hope that he will gain valuable experience at League One level under former MKM Stadium chief Grant McCann.

Since that deal was done, though, 19-year-old Finn Bergstrom has also been recruited on the same terms by McCann, who has stated his belief that he now possesses "two of the most up-and-coming goalkeepers in the EFL". Cartwright's one senior appearance during McCann's Tigers tenure came in a 2-1 Football League Trophy loss to Leicester City Under-21s in September 2020 at the age of 18.

He was then handed his league debut by Shota Arveladze in February as a 67th-minute substitute for an injured Matt Ingram at QPR with Ilias Chair going on to score the hosts' equaliser during a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road. With on-loan Chelsea shot-stopper Nathan Baxter also crocked, Cartwright continued between the sticks for the midweek home clash against Barnsley three days later but, after being beaten by Callum Styles and Carlton Morris goals in a 2-0 defeat to the Oakwell strugglers, Ingram was back in goal for the next game - a 3-0 triumph at Peterborough.

Baxter has since returned to Stamford Bridge, but Ingram and England under-20 international Cartwright both committed their long-term future to the Tigers at the end of last season, penning new three-year and four-year deals respectively.
