Nathan Baxter explains Carlo Cudicini decision that could impact Chelsea star

Nathan Baxter has admitted that staying at Chelsea was never an option this season after he was confirmed on another season-long loan with Hull City earlier this month.

The goalkeeper spent last season at the MKM Stadium and made 16 league appearances, keeping seven clean sheets, including a key period in the middle of the season that ensured Hull's survival in the Championship.

There was thought that Baxter might stay and fight for the third choice and backup goalkeeper spot at Stamford Bridge, with Kepa Arrizabalaga looking for first-team football to try and earn a place as Spain's number one keeper for the 2022 winter World Cup in Qatar.

The 23-year-old's departure could cause Thomas Tuchel an issue with Kepa still open to moving away from Stamford Bridge this summer. That would leave Marcus Bettinelli as the only other senior keeper at the club, with Jamie Cumming having never played for the first team.

Baxter has admitted that staying at Chelsea was never an option for him though, such was his enjoyment last term he didn't move his belongings from his East Yorkshire house, determined to make a return next season.

Despite senior figures at the club pushing for his promotion within the squad, loan boss Carlo Cudicini granted Baxter's wish to stay at Hull temporarily, sorting a deal that includes the possibility of a permanent transfer after next season.
