Harvey Barnes considering Scotland switch as power of starring for Steve Clarke's heroes proves irresistible

Harvey Barnes is reportedly considering a switch of international allegiance to Scotland.

The Newcastle winger is eligible to pull on the dark blue via his grandparents. He's rejected advances from the Scots before, but now the Times reports he's open to a switch after being snubbed yet again by Gareth Southgate for the latest England squad. The two nations go head-to-head in a Hampden friendly on Tuesday night to mark the 150th anniversary of the Scottish FA.

But it's the surge to top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group by Steve Clarke's men that makes them an attractive proposition for Barnes. Scotland can book their place in Germany next summer without even kicking a ball if results go their way elsewhere on Tuesday. After a 3-0 win over Cyprus on Friday, Andy Robertson and co. can almost taste a second major finals in three years.

And Barnes could opt to join the party if Clarke is willing to have him. However, doubt remains over Barnes' Newcastle teammate Elliot Anderson. He was handed his first Scotland call up for the current double header, but left camp with an injury earlier in the week.

Anderson could still opt for England should they include him. Clarke is hopeful he'll stick with his original decision to pick Scotland, but admitted he couldn't control the situation.
