Elliot Anderson to snub Scotland after Newcastle star 'didn't enjoy' Steve Clarke camp with England switch ON

Elliot Anderson has turned his back on Scotland after deciding it isn’t for him.

Newcastle United’s midfielder pulled out of the squad last week after just two training sessions. The SFA claimed Anderson was injured and had returned to St James’s Park for treatment. But the Scottish Daily Express has revealed he didn’t enjoy his time with Steve Clarke’s group – and now may try to turn out for England. Furthermore, Anderson will be fit and available for Newcastle’s English Premier League clash with Brentford at home on Saturday.

It’s a bitter blow to Clarke who after trying on numerous occasions to convince Anderson to pull on the dark blue looked to have finally got his wish when he was included in his squad for the Euros qualifier against Cyprus and Tuesday’s friendly with England. Now the 20-year-old could switch to the Three Lions, with boss Gareth Southgate earlier this week admitting he is a fan of the player who has turned out for various Scotland age-groups.

Clarke, however, could have more success in trying to bring in his Newcastle teammate Harvey Barnes. The winger is also eligible for Scotland and is looking at his international options.
