Hamilton Accies star Ryan Fulton: Injury withdrawal last season wasn't my decision but I'm glad to be back

Goalkeeper Ryan Fulton is thrilled to be back between the sticks for Accies - after claiming the former club hierarchy and medical team made the decision to remove him from the squad during last season's ill-fated play-offs that led to the club's relegation.

The Hamilton No.1 was withdrawn from the Accies squad with a thigh injury on the day of their crucial Championship play-off semi-final with Alloa last season, which Accies went on to win before losing to Airdrie on penalties in the final.

Fulton felt he was fit to help Accies for their biggest games in years, but the shot-stopper says the decision was 'taken out of his hands' by a medical team no longer at the club following a summer takeover by new owner Seref Zengin.

Ironically, he made his comeback on Saturday against Alloa in League One, as Accies look to get back to the Championship, and he was able to get off to a winning start in his first game since a 0-0 draw at Arbroath on May 5.

Accies netted a 93rd minute winner through Joe McGlynn to sting the Wasps and while Fulton is pleased to make his return, he admits there remains frustration about how last season panned out.

He said: "I don't want to go into too much detail, but things were taken out of my control last season.

"I felt as though I could play and I was playing. I played the previous game at Arbroath.

"I had a thigh issue way back in October but I was managing it, it was fine, but it got to a stage where it was taken out of my hands so late in the season, which was the most disappointing thing.

"It was an important point in the season, just after the Arbroath game [the final match ahead of the play-offs], but it was discussed upstairs and taken out of my control.

"But it is in the past now.
