Hamilton Accies skipper says side can kick on now 'monkey is off their back'

Hamilton Accies skipper Scott Martin hopes the side will really start to click after a weight was lifted off their shoulders with their first win back in the Championship.

The New Douglas Park outfit edged out Dunfermline yesterday, thanks to Reghan Tumilty's first half header, to land their maiden three points since winning promotion from League One last season.

Two defeats to Ayr and a draw with Morton in their opening three games saw Accies fail to pick up the rewards they felt their performances deserved.

But having tasted that winning feeling, Martin feels Accies really have something to build on going into next week's clash at home to struggling Airdrie.

He said: "The first win is the hardest one to get so it is a monkey off our back. The boys are buzzing but we know we need to keep it going next week now.

"The fact we've not had a win until now was probably on the boys' minds but I felt they were brilliant.

"We competed really well against a Dunfermline side who have been in the Championship for a couple of years now. They've got really good players and a good manager so it was a tough test for us, but we deserved the win in the end.

"In previous games, we've been really good but it has been just that final bit missing for us or wee errors have let other teams back in.

"But I think it will really click for us eventually and we will start taking a lot of chances."

Martin was sent off on the opening day at home to Ayr and returned from suspension to face them last week.
