Hamilton Accies sign Airdrie cup hero

Hamilton Accies have signed striker Nikolay Todorov from Airdrie on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old Bulgarian striker has spent the last season at Airdrie, and was their top scorer with 12 goals, including the winner in the SPFL Trust Trophy final against The New Saints of Wales. He also scored a winner against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup.

However, the arrival of strikers like Ben Wilson this summer had pushed Todorov down the pecking order.

Accies boss John Rankin, who played with Todorov at Falkirk, told Hamilton Accies' website: "It's great to get Nikolay in. It's a deal that moved quickly and I know there were a few other teams interested, so I'm delighted we got it over the line.

"He offers us something different up front, and brings a new challenge to the boys in training every day. He's a hard worker, is aggressive in the box, and likes to push forward, so he's going to fit right into the team."

Airdrie say that Todorov was released from his contract by mutual consent and added: "We thank Nikolay for his service during his time in the Diamond, and we wish him and his family all the very best for the future."
