Ayr v Airdrie: Adam Frizzell hoping Diamonds can end hoodoo with Honest Men

Airdrie ace Adam Frizzell will be out to end their Ayr hoodoo tonight to ensure they build on their positive start to the season.

The Diamonds have lost their last six games to the Honest Men, while they have also failed to win at Somerset Park in their last four trips to Ayrshire.

Frizzell even tasted a derby defeat there as a Kilmarnock player so the Airdrie skipper is determined to change the record against Scott Brown’s side in the live BBC Scotland clash.

The 26-year-old helped his side kick-off the new campaign with a 1-0 win over Raith Rovers last weekend and says they must kick on to mount a Championship title challenge this term.

He said: “Ayr are another team, like Raith, with a big budget. It is always tough at Somerset Park, even when I was at Kilmarnock.

“I have never won down there. I have only played a few games down there, but I lost an Ayrshire derby there, I lost both times with Airdrie last season and we don’t have a great record against them so that shows you how difficult they are. But we will be looking to put that right.

“They are like us at the moment, there is a sort of feel good factor around the place and they won on Saturday as well [a 2-0 win at Hamilton Accies].

“We’ve got a totally new squad and they have freshened up a lot as well, so it will be a good game on the TV, and I’m looking forward to it. We will go down there and hopefully make it a very good start for us.

“It is pivotal that you get those points early if you want to find yourself in a title race.”

Airdrie reached the Premiership play-offs last season before being knocked out at the quarter-final stage, but Frizzell says there is belief they could go all the way this season.
