Leny Yoro details Rio Ferdinand transfer talks that sealed Manchester United deal

Leny Yoro has revealed how discussions with Rio Ferdinand were influential in his decision to join Manchester United.

The 18-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Lille for an initial £52m on Thursday, with United beating Liverpool and Champions League winners Real Madrid to his signature.

Prior to his move, Ferdinand had made a public plea for Yoro to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Raphael Varane and join United as Real Madrid circled. And in behind-the-scenes footage of the defender's signing day, United's media team presented him with a message of congratulations from Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles and a Champions League after joining the club from Leeds United in 2002.

Now, in a new clip posted on Manchester United's social media channels, Yoro revealed that speaking to Ferdinand was convincing in his decision to join the club.

"Let's say, Rio Ferdinand. I don't even know if I can explain this guy but he's a top defender and a really good guy because I had the chance to meet him," said Yoro when asked who his favourite United legend was.

"I called him but I hope to meet him soon. He's a really nice guy. Not today, during the transfer market, he helped me a lot to make my choice. He explained to me how big United are. So yeah, it was really good for me."
