Hamilton Accies defender to leave club after talks fail

Hamilton Accies are set to part company with defender Jamie Hamilton after he turned down a new deal at New Douglas Park.

It is understood the 22-year-old knocked back a contract earlier this month and the club have now pulled the plug on any potential deal, after failing to agree terms with the academy product. Hamilton will now begin his search for a new club this summer and Accies will turn their attention elsewhere.

The club helped Hamilton with his recovery from a serious injury and various setbacks over the last two years. He made his return to the field for the first time in 23 months towards the end of the season, featuring in three games for Accies before they entered the Championship play-offs in May, which won the club promotion.

He follows in the footsteps of winger Lewis Smith, who ended a 15-year spell with the club having come through the youth ranks, and long-term goalkeeper Ryan Fulton in moving on. Smith joined Championship rivals Livingston, while Ryan Fulton has made the step up to Hearts in the Premiership.

While players are heading out the door, fresh faces are on their way soon with midfielder Barry Maguire and Charlie Albinson set to be unveiled by the Championship club. They are also interested in signing Steven Bradely, who was yesterday released by Livingston.

Accies are back for pre-season training next weekend to build towards their return to the second tier, which will kick-off in August.
