Hamilton Accies boss wants signing 'in coming days' as League One campaign looms

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin hopes to make at least one signing within days as he tries to further boost his squad ahead of the League One kick-off.

Pre-season friendlies and the Viaplay Cup group stage matches so far have identified areas in which Rankin wants to strengthen, and one of the players he wants to bring in is an experienced defender.

Rankin made 10 signings early in the summer to get them as well prepared as possible, but is still looking to strengthen.

While he was no further forward than this time last week, Rankin does hope to close in on his targets shortly.

He said: “We’re still trying. At this stage of the season it’s important that we get the right one, and I’ve said that for a number of weeks, now.

“We’ve done the majority of our business in the early part, we’ve pinpointed two or three positions that we feel we need to strengthen, and hopefully will do so in the coming days, ideally.

“If we can get it done, the sooner the better, but I’m aware that players who are out of contract want to wait and see what becomes available.

“But if we could get that sorted in the coming days, I would be delighted.”
