'Had to have a word' - Journalist reveals what he spotted as Spurs man broke a rule

Antonio Conte was seen ’10-15 yards’ out of his technical area on the touchline on Monday night trying to instruct his Tottenham Hotspur side in their emphatic win in north London.

That is according to Rob Guest, who was reporting from the press box in N17 as Spurs piled the pressure on a struggling Everton side.

The Italian has been an animated figure in recent weeks at Spurs with the club’s form far from consistent, and Guest picked up on his touchline antics against the Toffees.

The 52-year-old was seen trying to direct the ball towards his left wing-back, Ryan Sessegnon, during the first 45 minutes of the game.

With rumours of a new contract in the offing for the Spurs youngster, it appears the manager is paying close attention to his performances from the touchline.

Guest wrote for football.london: “There was one moment midway through the first half when fourth official Martin Atkinson had to have a word with Conte after he stepped out of his technical area.

“Now the Italian wasn’t just a couple of yards outside his box, he was literally 10-15 yards down the touchline when he was instructing his team.

“Playing the ball out across the back, Conte could be seen trying to tell Sessegnon what to do as Spurs tried to work the ball towards him.”

Sessegnon has had a difficult start to his career with Tottenham, however, in recent weeks he has shown some signs of improvement under Conte.

The Englishman was able to provide an assist in the recent game against Leeds United and provided the cross on Monday night for Michael Keane’s own goal.

So it does seem the manager is getting the best out of the 21-year-old, and little instructions like Guest picked up on are clearly having a big impact
