Greater Manchester protests LIVE as mosques urge people to 'be vigilant' and businesses shut ahead of 'planned unrest'
Mosque leaders have urged people to 'be vigilant' and some businesses have closed amid reports on social media of possible 'planned unrest' across Greater Manchester later today.
Police across the country are monitoring reports of at least 30 possible gatherings and threats against immigration law specialists this evening. A list of solicitors’ firms and advice agencies has been shared in chat groups as possible targets for gatherings, with the message inviting people to 'mask up' if they attend.
On the list are a number of locations in Greater Manchester. Although it is not yet clear if any gatherings or protests will take place, and what the nature of them will be if so, there is widespread concern in local community groups across Greater Manchester ahead of any potential 'unrest'.

The Bolton Council of Mosques hare released a statement to members urging them to 'be vigilant' today. The letter, which has been seen by the Manchester Evening News, states that mosque leaders have been told that 'GMP have resources in place to deal with any potential protests'.
Oldham Central Masjid also issued a statement urging people 'to be vigilant and take upmost care'. "We urge people not to counter demonstrate but report incidents to the police on 999", the statement added.
A bar in Wigan will also stay shut today amid concerns over any potential disorder in the local area. The owners of the bar, on Wigan Lane, posted in a public Facebook group: "Due to the arranged 'protest' on Wigan Lane tomorrow evening, we have decided to keep the bar closed for the whole of the day and evening."
