Greater Manchester hour-by-hour weather forecast as Storm Lilian set to batter UK

A weather warning has been issued as Greater Manchester braces itself to be battered by Storm Lilian with strong winds and heavy rain forecast.

The Met Office has issued the yellow warning for wind from 5am until 11am tomorrow (Friday) covering the whole of the North of England, including Greater Manchester, and some parts of North Wales.

Up to 50mm of rain is forecast to fall in just a few hours and wind gusts of up to 80mph expected in some areas during the course of the morning.

Forecasters have warned that the storm will "bring strong winds, which may lead to disruption to travel and infrastructure".

The heavy winds could cause damage to buildings, power cuts while transport services may also be affected, the Met Office has warned. The public are being advised to be aware of flying debris, which may cause injuries and a danger to life.

"An area of strong winds associated with Storm Lilian is expected to move east across northern England during Friday morning," The Met Office said.

"Whilst there remains some uncertainty about the details, some very strong winds are likely to develop, with gusts widely in the 50 to 60mph range, with a lower chance that a small core of winds gusting 65-75 mph, perhaps 80 mph, could push quickly east during the morning.

"These winds are likely to affect major routes such as the M6, A66 and A1(M), as well as potentially impacting infrastructure. As well as the strong winds, some locally heavy rainfall will add to the difficult travel conditions."

Here's the hour-by-hour forecast for every Greater Manchester borough for tomorrow:

7am: Light rain, 14C, Wind gust 54 mph

8am: Light showers, 13C, Wind gust 48 mph
