"Got that winning mentality" – Journalist drops claim on high-profile duo Tottenham could sign

Journalist Pete O’Rourke reckons that Stefan de Vrij and Arturo Vidal would bring “leadership” and a “winning mentality” to Tottenham.

Spurs have been linked with the duo, who were both part of the Inter Milan team that won Serie A with Antonio Conte last season, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Conte is not only looking to improve the quality of his squad, but he recently told the Italian media that signing experienced players will help Tottenham become competitive again.

The Spurs boss is a serial winner and is used to winning trophies, with five league titles in England and Italy already on his CV. Conte has won everywhere he’s managed, claiming three Serie A titles with Juventus, the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea, before guiding Inter to the league last term.

Therefore, he wants to give Tottenham every chance of lifting silverware, meaning De Vrij and Vidal, two players who have both tasted success, would fit in with Conte’s current needs.

According to reports, Spurs are in pole position to sign the Dutchman, who’s got less than 18 months on his Inter contract, while the North London outfit are also chasing a deal for Vidal, who’s available for nothing this summer.

Not only could the pair add quality to the Tottenham squad, but O’Rourke reckons their experience of winning trophies could also help Conte identify a clear “weakness” at the club.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “You’re looking at the likes of top players like De Vrij and Vidal, who have got that winning mentality and would definitely bring that leadership quality into that Tottenham team. It’s definitely a weakness that Antonio Conte wants to improve on.”
