'Good move' - Mason Greenwood given firm England message as Gareth Southgate talks potential recall

Gareth Southgate has revealed that Mason Greenwood will not feature in his plans for the Euro 2024 - but he might get a call to join England squad after the tournament. The England boss believes Greenwood's move to Spain has been a positive for the player and Man United.

The Manchester United winger, currently on loan at Getafe, is performing well in Spain and all criminal charges against him have been dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew.

Greenwood's future at United remains uncertain, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe admitting to the Manchester Evening News that he hasn't closed the door fully on him returning this summer. The controversial forward had been sent out on loan in the summer with United stating at the time that his career at the club was over.

Similarly, Southgate has now not fully closed the door on an England return for the 22-year-old. However, the Three Lions boss has strongly stated that he does not see Greenwood in his immediate plans.

Southgate said: "Well for me I don't think it's something for pre-Euros. I think allowing him to get his career going again abroad appears to have been a good move but I have to say I have not tracked it closely. I think at this moment in time it would be a big distraction for the team and let's see where that leads next season."

While Southgate hinted that Greenwood's international future could be reconsidered, he stated that he would need to conduct his own investigation into the player's behaviour before considering him for selection again. He said: "I would need to know more details about the whole
