Getafe manager gives Mason Greenwood transfer update amid bid to sign Man United striker

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas says he is in the dark over Mason Greenwood’s future at the Spanish club with Manchester United yet to make a transfer decision on their player.

Last month, Sir Jim Ratcliffe told reporters that INEOS will undertake a process to determine “is he a good guy or not” and whether it is feasible that he could play for the club again.

In February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service said charges against the 22-year-old of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault had been dropped after after key witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has always denied all charges.

United conducted their own internal investigation and announced in August that it had been decided that he would continue his career elsewhere. But Ratcliffe’s comments appear to keep the door ajar for Greenwood's reintegration.

The forward has attracted attention in Spain, scoring eight times and assisting five more in 28 games. Barcelona have been one of a few clubs linked with attaining an interest in the England international as a result.

Getafe have frequently outlined their intent to keep hold of Greenwood beyond this season but manager Bordalas has now cast doubt over whether the club would be able to get a deal over the line, be that loan or permanent.

Asked about the chances of Getafe retaining Greenwood next season, Bordalas told a press conference: "We don’t know. In the end his club has to decide their intentions with the player.

“Then we will also know the boy’s intentions for his future. But I can’t tell you. We are happy with his behaviour and his performances."
