Glasgow City appoint Jamie Ewings new head of goalkeeping, as he links up with fellow East Kilbride star

Jamie Ewings has linked up with fellow East Kilbride star Lee Gibson after becoming the new goalkeeping coach at Scottish Women’s Premier League champions Glasgow City.

Ewings, who played for Albion Rovers and Dumbarton, has been appointed the head of goalkeeping at City and will now oversee training for shot-stoppers Gibson, Erin Clachers and Ava Easdon at Petershill Park.

He joins from the St Mirren men’s team in the Scottish Premiership and takes over from Sam Devine, who recently left City for a new role.

The 39-year-old is a UEFA ‘A’ Licence goalkeeping coach and brings a wealth of experience, having started his career at Motherwell in 2002 and had a spell in the League of Ireland with Drogheda United.

He is also currently a Goalkeeping Coach Education tutor for the Scottish FA and will lead on the development of all goalkeepers throughout the club’s academy as part of his new role.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started with the club. It’s a club notorious with being successful and, hopefully, with my arrival this continues to be the case and we can push on even further,” Ewings told the club website.

“Hopefully I can have a positive influence not just on the first team goalkeepers but throughout the club as a whole, to try and continue to make this the best club in Scotland at producing goalkeeping talent within the women’s game.

“With the recent SWPL title and the upcoming Champions League campaign, I’m pleased to be starting the role at an exciting time for the club.”

City will kick-off their Women’s Champions League campaign on Wednesday, September 6 when they host Shelbourne in the first round, as they seek to reach the group stage in November.
