Getafe confirm transfer stance on Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood

Getafe president Angel Torres believes the Spanish club is on the 'right track' to keep hold of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

United informed Greenwood that 'it would be most appropriate for him' to continue his career away from Old Trafford following a six-and-a-half-month internal investigation into him. He then joined Getafe on a season-long loan deal.

Though it has taken him time to get up to speed, Greenwood has contributed five goals and four assists in his first 15 appearances for the club. His form has meant that he has become a regular starter for Getafe boss José Bordalás.

Greenwood's form has sparked speculation about his long-term future, but Getafe are keen to keep hold of him on a permanent basis. One report recently claimed they 'may' offer £40million to retain his services.

However, Torres has suggested Getafe would like to sign him on loan again next season, confirming they have recently held talks with United about Greenwood's future. He has claimed United are aware of their desire to keep him for another year.

"We had a video conference a few days ago," Torres confirmed, speaking to the media. "Almost every month we talk to see how he is.

"The boy is super happy. Now he is there, in England. The family too. They know we are interested in him staying one more year and I think we are on the right track."

Unlike in England, clubs in Spain have taken a brief pause from playing over the festive period. Getafe are next in action on January 2, facing Rayo Vallecano at home in a La Liga fixture.
