Bundesliga wildcard, Champions League winner - Manchester United transfer options to solve glaring issue

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will have been delighted to see Rasmus Hojlund get on the scoresheet on Sunday afternoon.

The Danish centre-forward waited a long time to get his first Premier League but, like buses, two have come along in quick succession. United's 20-year-old was bought with the long-term firmly in mind but come the summer, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be looking to dip into the transfer market to add to their attack.

Anthony Martial is destined to depart at the end of this season which would leave United with just one recognised centre-forward at the club. No other position at the club has such little depth.

The MEN's United writers have spelled out the options for the club this summer.

Kylian Mbappe would improve any team on the planet but he is bound to be unattainable as United may not be in the Champions League and the careers of umpteen marquee names have flatlined at the club.

As certifiable as it sounds, there would be method in the madness of going for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He is 26, experienced in the Premier League, out of contract next year and would have the hunger to vie for his place with Hojlund.

United invested an exorbitant amount to buy Hojlund but have to champion him, so the next striker they recruit could be one to keep him on his toes. There are bright red flags, of course with Calvert-Lewin: he has missed 53 games in the last 18 months through injury and only scored 11 goals since May 2021.

So the one United should make a beeline for is Alexander Isak. Newcastle have admitted they may have to sell one of their poster boys, Isak has all of the hallmarks of a
