Clyde boss Ian McCall focused on Stranraer, rather than League Two table

Clyde boss Ian McCall won’t look at the League Two table until March and insists he’s only focused on their next game.

The Bully Wee are rock bottom of the division, with just one league win all season – ironically against nearest challengers Elgin City, back in September – as they prepare to host sixth-placed Stranraer on Saturday.

Their 2-0 Scottish Cup third round win over Jeanfield Swifts was their first in eight games, and set up a fourth-round clash against Aberdeen in January.

It was also the last game played by Clyde, who were left cooling their heels as their trip to Elgin City was frozen off on Saturday.

McCall said: “We’ve only got one target and that’s getting three points on Saturday. I know that’s a cliché, but that’s what we’ve got to do.

“Don’t even look at the league table until March, and you just take one game, try to win it, and then go to the next one.

“I’d like to win on Saturday, ultimately that’s how you’re judged.”

Though McCall and assistant Neil Scally have been in the job for a couple of weeks now, they’re still assessing what they have available, and looking at a league that is unfamiliar to them.

The experienced ex-Falkirk and Partick Thistle gaffer reckons top clubs Stenhousemuir, Peterhead and Dumbarton will probably make up the top three in some configuration, but their target is avoiding a play-off where Clyde could drop into the Lowland League.

“In the situation we’re in, there are no easy games. We have to be humble about that and recognise that, but it’s one where we want to try and win, and we’ll be giving it everything to do that,” said McCall.
