Gemma Atkinson says 'it's going to take a lot of work' as she shares vow to her 'babies'

Gemma Atkinson has told fans that it's 'going to take a lot of work' as she updated them on her 'babies' - and not just of the human kind. The Hits Radio host shared a message about her beloved pet pooch Norman after revealing she had to take him to the vet.

Posting a picture of her much-loved pet, who is also joined in the Atkinson-Marquez household by Ollie, Gemma shared how Norman's trip to a dog dermatologist did provide her and her fiance Gorka Marquez with some answers that they were longing for so they could help him in his later years.

"So after a trip to a dog dermatologist today and various swabs, blood tests and skin tests, it seems Norman has atopic dermatitis," Gemma started the caption of her post to her 1.9 million followers alongside a picture of Norman. "Basically his immune system overreacts to airborne allergens and makes everything itch and become inflamed.

"He gets regular ear infections, anal gland infections and swollen red pads. He was born with it and it’s apparently very common in his breed (he’s a sproodle) so I’m just glad it’s nothing I’ve done the last almost 12 years. Anything as little as dust mites, certain ingredients in foods, or skin contact with certain substances will set it off."

She went on to share: "It’s not curable but it’s treatable in that he’ll be loads more comfortable and (hopefully) back to his old happy self. It’s just going to take a lot of work treatment wise. We’ve got 3 wks of twice weekly baths, daily dry foam soaks, 2 lots of ear drops, and 2 lots of tablets before we head back for appointment number 2."
