Gary Neville has already sent Man United Denzel Dumfries transfer verdict

Manchester United's right-back conundrum took another twist this week when reports surfaced surrounding Denzel Dumfries' desire to move to the club.

According to The Athletic, Dumfries has postponed contract negotiations with the Italian giants because he finds a move to Old Trafford particularly appealing. The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his deal at the San Siro and is open to pursuing new options.

For United, this is seen as a win-win as they look to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka from their books. The Englishman has also entered the last year of his contract and there is no desire from the Reds' end to extend his deal in 2025.

Currently, United wish to sell Wan-Bissaka to West Ham and purchase Bayern Munich's Noussair Mazraoui as his replacement. But if a deal could not be agreed with the Iron, this could be a good alternative.

However, former right-back Gary Neville has provided his old club with a warning should they wish to pursue the Plan B approach of Dumfries. During a stint in the commentary box when the Netherlands faced England in the Nations League semi-finals, the 49-year-old declared: "He’s not a defender, at all.

"From the first minute, everything has looked off." Dumfries is a player many have struggled to nail down a preferred position for.

In Serie A last season, Dumfries was primarily utilised as a right-sided midfielder, but he has been known to drop deeper into a wing-back role when needed. A sticking point could also occur when discussions begin surrounding his playing time.
