Gary Neville disagrees with Graeme Souness' verdict on Marcel Sabitzer's potential red card

Gary Neville has claimed that Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer's challenge on Wout Faes lacked the required force to justify a red card during the victory over Leicester City.

At half-time on Sky Sports' Super Sunday, Souness was left livid with the officials after Sabitzer did not receiving a sending off for a studs up tackle on the Foxes' defender on the edge of their penalty area. Discussing the moment, the 69-year-old said: "100 per cent, I think this is a red card for several reasons.

"Sabitzer has turned side on to him, which is a classic case of if you're going to go and do someone, that's how you're going to go and do it. If he makes contact with the ball, what's he going to do with the ball?

"He's looking for the player. I don't care what some referee who's never played the game wants to say on that.

"That's a sending-off, that's dangerous play. If that's not dangerous play, what is?

"He's turned side on; ask any professional footballer, it's a classic case of setting yourself up to do someone." When asked during the second half about the incident, Neville took a much more lenient view than his Sky Sports colleague.

"I don't think it was a red," he explained. "He withdrew very quickly on it and didn't follow through with the force that would be required."

United would go on to win the clash at Old Trafford with ease thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford and a well worked third from Jadon Sancho. The Reds now sit five points behind leaders Arsenal, in third place.
