Gary Neville roasted by TV presenter for Graeme Souness clash after Liverpool vs Manchester United

Gary Neville was at the brunt of a joke-jibing outro from Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates after Manchester United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

The punditry post-match was as fiery as ever following United’s worst defeat in 92 years, although Neville believed his former club were the better side in the first half. He claimed the scoreline was a “freak” result and that Liverpool didn’t play overly well despite firing in the seven goals.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, he had a back-and-forth exchange with Graeme Souness, who claimed the ex-defender had said off-air that Liverpool had not played that well. Neville responded: “I didn’t say that.

“I said, first half, I think Manchester United were the better team. In the second half it was just about Manchester United’s capitulation.

"I don’t think Jurgen Klopp, he’ll analyse that game tomorrow and the momentum he’ll take from that, he won’t think oh, we’re back. My point is I’ve seen Liverpool play well for five or six years and they’ve put in some of the best performances I’ve ever seen.

“They’re still not back anywhere near that. They played alright in the second half, they won the game no problem. I’ve said congratulations, well done. Congratulations. My point is when you get beat seven-nil it becomes about how bad the other team are.”

Souness and Neville carried on the verbal tennis until the end of the show before Cates, daughter of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, was required to give her closing lines for the show.
