Every word of Gary Neville's scathing rant about Manchester United after Liverpool FC battering

Former captain Gary Neville described Manchester United's players as "unprofessional" in a scathing rant following their second-half capitulation in Sunday's 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

United, who had arrived at Anfield dreaming of completing a league double over their rivals, collapsed in a dramatic second half on Merseyside, conceding six times without reply. They had fashioned some good openings in the first half and were unfortunate to go into the break 1-0 down, following Cody Gakpo's impressive finish.

However, following Darwin Nunez's header just two minutes after the restart, United had no answer for what followed. Gakpo netted his second to make it 3-0 before Mohamed Salah smashed a thunderous effort past David de Gea to get in on the act.

Nunez then claimed his second to extend Liverpool's lead to 5-0 ahead of Salah grabbing his second. Roberto Firmino, fresh from stepping off the bench, then scored a seventh to complete the rout and leave United to reflect on their biggest defeat in almost a century.

The Reds had arrived at Anfield brimming with confidence after a four-game winning run which had featured a victory over Barcelona and a win that ended their six-year wait for a trophy. Expectedly, Neville was stunned by the manner in which Erik ten Hag's troops capitulated.

"I have absolutely no idea [where it came from]," Neville told Sky Sports. "I am in shock.
