Freezing fog rush hour warning issued by Met Office across Greater Manchester

There's a yellow weather warning for fog across Greater Manchester this morning, with rush hour drivers being urged to take extra care on the roads.

With temperatures having also fallen below freezing, forecasters are also warning of ice. There could be some travel disruption as a result - with tricky driving conditions possible.

There is also a chance of delays and cancellations to flights, the Met Office warns. The yellow weather warning covers much of the west of England and the Welsh border. It runs until 11am, when fog is expected to thin and clear.

After being battered by storms in recent days, most recently by Storm Conall, Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said the UK is now returning to a 'typical end of November' weather. The coming days will see a split with brighter and drier skies in the east and cloudier weather in the west.

Mr Dewhurst said: "Conall pulled away early lunchtime (on Wednesday), and is now rapidly deepening – there's quite an intense storm as it pushes into the Netherlands. That's all clearing now UK-wise, and allowing high pressure to build in from the north at the moment, so it's getting drier, quite clear as well."

Clear skies meant temperatures to around -4C in rural in Manchester overnight with some icy stretches, freezing fog patches, and a widespread frost. Thursday will be generally bright and cold, Mr Dewhurst said.

Clouds are expected to gather in the west and bring a risk of rain in far-western parts of the country, with temperatures in Greater Manchester around 5C.
