Frank Lampard reveals Rangers legend's advice on managerial future as he sets out his 'big successes' no one talks about

Frank Lampard reckons he has managerial credentials no one talks about as he opened on what comes next after his Rangers snub.

The Chelsea legend was in the final running for the Ibrox club to appoint Michael Beale's successor, with Rangers legend Graeme Souness, who was drafted in to help with negotiations, revealing he fancied Lampard for the job. The Ibrox hierarchy in the end went for experienced Philippe Clement as the former Chelsea and Derby boss was resigned to a longer hiatus from the dugout. But Lampard reckons his confidence hasn't been dented after being shunned for a new role.

He revisited sage advice from Rangers icon Walter Smith when he first got the boot from Chelsea, after the legendary Scottish manager offered the former midfielder an important message on how he can be the best manager. Lampard has now put his focus in to his next challenge, but says he's not in any way 'picky.'

He told the Obi One podcast: "I love doing it. You still have tough moments but the great Walter Smith, who I was relatively close to at the time when I spoke to him when I first left Chelsea, he said to me: 'Frank, you have to get it out of your mind that you'll go in to football clubs for five, or ten years now, it's not the case. You get the short span, go in and make the impact. You'll be successful or you won't be and move on to the next one'.

"When I look at my managerial career, getting Derby to a play-off, getting Chelsea to the Champions League, I left halfway through the next season after tough month..at Everton we stayed up.
