France double police presence for Scotland clash as government add security after Brussels shooting

The French government have doubled the number of police at the stadium for France vs Scotland on Tuesday night after a suspected terror attack in Belgium on Monday evening.

Two fans in Sweden shirts were shot dead and a third spectator was injured in a horrific incident the Belgian authorities are treating as a terror incident. Tuesday night's game takes place in Lille, right on the French-Belgian border and just over 100km away from where the incident took place in Brussels. And French cops are doubling their efforts in response.

French interior minister Gerald Darmanin has announced there will be twice as many police at the game as initially planned in addition to reinforcing the military presence at the border. He said: "Following the attack in Brussels, I immediately requested a reinforcement of troops at the border. Furthermore, we will double the number of police and gendarmerie mobilised for the match this evening in Lille."

Scotland take on the world number two side in a friendly having sealed qualification for Euro 2024 already. Steve Clarke says there will be changes with captain Andy Robertson and starting right-back Aaron Hickey pulling out through injury. It could mean a debut for Max Johnston who comes into the squad after impressing at Sturm Graz since his move from Motherwell.
